Tuition : A Necessary Evil?????

Is it just exam phobia or more????

Tuition classes are becoming a mainstay and  a big part of our educational ecosystem. With the kind of competition children these days face at every stage, parents are stressed like never before.

Do tuitions help???

There are certain situations where extra classes may be required.

For example:

  • If the number of children per class is high. In such a case, students are likely to need extra coaching to finish up everything the school is not likely to teach.
  • Parents do not have the time or are not equipped to give the students the necessary help at home.
  • Students who are already good at school and want that extra push to help them climb from scoring 85% to scoring anywhere above 92%.
  • Not all school teachers do a good job of imparting the concepts and addressing the different needs of students. Many teachers agree to the fact that a teacher in a classroom is trying to address the needs of a variety of students who have different grasping abilities.
  • Even in good schools, only about 40% of the teachers use creative methods and give their job a 100% .

……..but there are some negative pay-offs!!!!!

tuition should be given to those who really need, not those who are excelling…

At the tender age , students should not be thrown in the deep end with a view of getting the best colleges  years later! It is saddening to see small kids walking to school with bags that are bigger than their little fragile bodies. At that kind of age, personal development should be given as much importance as academic progress.

Many childhoods have been lost in the madness that is the ‘rat race’ for a good college, where these kids are again subjected to utterly senseless competition, so much so that by the time they reach university, they have no tools to deal with the demands that a tertiary education require in terms of personal skills since they have been spoonfed/choked with academic fodder only throughout their school life.

Primary education should be all about doing project work, nature trips, sports, music,…etc All these instill a sense of personal commitment, involvement and initiative on behalf of students, which they will possess all their life and could help them even more in college and at university.

I hope all tuitions are abolished, not only at primary level but also at secondary level. Teachers are getting too commercial. Fair enough, they are important clogs in the progress of society, but some teachers are so arrogant they think they have divine status. They earn so much on top of their government pay, fully profiting from the inhumane competition that has become the main concern  of today.

Colleges complain about poor attendances , but this is wholly due to the tuition culture. I don’t think teachers complain about low attendances at their private coaching sessions!! We are producing students with stunted growth, with little or no personal skills. All they know is how to score high marks in board exam papers.

It is time to move academic development back to College/school hours (where it belongs!).  We don’t want robots coming out of the school system, we want individuals who can tackle the real world where marks at exams don’t count, but attitude and discipline that determine success.

Poll: What do students think about tuitions?

survey by: ASSOCHAM

  • Waste of money. Self study is enough                 22%
  • Nothing wrong with it! It really helps!                78%
  • It really helps, as school teachers are not                                            doing as well as tuition teachers                           32%
  • Unnecessary – it’s all a scheme!                           12%
  • Most their friends do so and they don’t                                            want to be left behind 65%
  • Other Reasons                                                         8%

‘ø Majority of middle-class parents spend nearly 1/3 of their monthly incomes on tuition. Nearly 85% of the students felt that if one does not take tuitions then it he or she is not ambitious enough.’

In one way tutions are helpful, increasing knowledge ,giving more practice, any more in this way,.But now a days its like a fashion, everyone goes to 1or mor tutions, may be an excellent child,or may be a dull one.It helps the child to be dependant and that is upon teachers, they forget to do self efforts, though it has advantages it has more disadvantage s

They are your parents ,they must be wanting your good .you should go to tutions and get the propable exam questions ,and by seeing good marks your parents may rely upon you ,and they may not send you to tutions .

  12. samarth says:

The Government should take action against thieving teachers and the sick culture of tuitions. But as long as we have the kind of teachers we have, most of them greedy beings who have turned coaching into a highly profitable business which only they benefit from, we will never see the end of tuitions.
